Position Overview: Are you a visionary financial expert seeking a senior management position where you can make a profound impact on the financial health and growth of a company? Join our dynamic team as Operations Mine Controller. You will play a pivotal role in managing our finance and accounting departments, providing critical financial insights that drive strategic decision-making and fuel the company’s future success.  Under the leadership of the Performance Materials (PM) Director, Operations Finance, the primary responsibility is to forge strong business partnerships and provide mining strategy analysis, record and report accurate monthly financial data, cost analysis and decision support to the functional leaders of the Southern Utah mine and mill facilities and PM division leadership. Interact with a key strategic customer and support long range planning for mine development.  Company mines a mineral that is critical to our communication systems and national defense operations.

Responsibilities:  Be the primary mine accounting and finance expert.  Support USGAAP accounting and mine disclosures.

Financial Leadership

Oversee all accounting operations, including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
Build cross functional Business partnerships with Operations Teams and provide cost analysis, financial insights, and decisions support, including key customer contract negotiations and reporting.
Guide and direct these departments, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
Partner with Supply Chain to drive inventory optimization while meeting customer demand to and improve Working Capital as a percentage of sales by also managing AR and AP.

Strategic Financial Planning

Identify and drive cost reductions and continuous improvement, including the maintenance of reporting to monitor actual performance vs. savings targets.

Analyze and monitor labor, overhead and material variances vs. budget and forecast and provide proactive recommendations to enhance financial performance.
Provide the management team, shareholders, and investors with a clear understanding of the company’s financial performance.
Partner with business leaders as the main finance lead to develop strategic plans for new mining activities, capital requirement needs, and potential strategic transactions.

Timely Financial Reporting

Prepare and publish timely weekly, monthly, and annual financial information.
Support operational management and reporting to investors and shareholders.
Ensure the availability of accurate and meaningful financial data.

Regulatory Compliance

Oversee the preparation of regulatory reporting, ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
Stay updated on changes in accounting practices and research technical accounting issues.

Financial Control and Quality Assurance

Lead month-end closing and financial reporting activities for assigned location(s), including the preparation of journal entries, management reports, and account reconciliations.
Develop and lead forecast and annual operating budget processes.
Maintain strong internal controls over financial transactions and reporting.
Contribute to the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring efficiency.

Tax Compliance and Incentives

Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Assist in identifying and securing grants and tax incentives.

Process Improvement and Documentation

Develop and document robust business processes and accounting policies.
Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
CPA preferred but not required.
Ten years of hands-on accounting managerial experience.
Must have experience in Mining accounting.
Preferred experience with SAP but any strong ERP experience will be accepted.
