Accounting Manager – Financial Reporting

Location: Salt Lake City, UT

We are seeking an accomplished Accounting Manager – Financial Reporting to join our finance team in Salt Lake City, Utah area. This position is ideal for a highly analytical, detail-oriented accounting professional with a passion for financial reporting, compliance, and asset management.

In this key leadership role, you will oversee the preparation and analysis of accurate financial statements, manage fixed assets, and ensure adherence to regulatory and compliance requirements.

CPA required.

Core Focus Areas
Financial Reporting & Fixed Asset Management
The successful candidate will bring strong financial reporting expertise, advanced proficiency in Spreadsheet Server (SAP) and Microsoft Excel, and the ability to conduct complex data analysis. Proficiency in PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat is highly valued for developing professional, executive-level reports and presentations. A solid understanding of GAAP principles, financial systems, and effective written communication is essential.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial data preparation and consolidation for internal and external reporting.
  • Ensure all financial reports meet GAAP standards and organizational policies.

Financial Analysis & Executive Reporting

  • Prepare financial narratives, budget-to-actual variance analyses, and performance dashboards covering production, safety, compliance, and personnel metrics.
  • Manage all aspects of fixed asset accounting, including CAPEX tracking, lifecycle management, and depreciation.
  • Develop concise, visually engaging financial presentations and reports for executive and site leadership teams.

Property Tax Compliance

  • Coordinate reporting of asset additions and disposals to state tax authorities in Colorado and Utah.
  • Collaborate with the budgeting team to prepare annual property tax forecasts and ensure timely accruals and payments.

Technical Accounting & Audit Support

  • Prepare technical accounting memoranda and maintain internal accounting policy documentation.
  • Support annual audit activities and provide ad hoc financial and operational analyses.
  • Stay current with FASB standards and evolving GAAP requirements.

Governmental Reporting

  • Complete required annual government filings, including the Report of Organization, Capital Expenditures Survey, and U.S. Energy Information submissions.

Preferred Qualifications
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience; mining industry experience strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Comprehensive technical accounting knowledge.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and SAP (Spreadsheet Server).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal abilities.

Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Assistant Controller.
